Sidmouth under 9's v Exmouth

October 21st 2012 Exmouth u9 vs Sidmouth u9.

On a gloriously crisp and sunny autumnal morning, Sidmouth travelled to Exmouth to see if we could continue building on our impressive start to the season.

We arrived and were allocated the bottom of the 2nd team pitch to train and play on, and although a bit boggy and muddy from the previous week's rain, it held up very well.

Sidmouth are rapidly building a reputation as fearsome tourists and today was no exception, with our superior defensive accuracy the major difference between the two teams.  What was also very encouraging to see was our tendency to construct tries as opposed to relying on individuals running through the entire opposition. Where we continue to grow is in our ability to force defensive turnovers. We were able to continually force the opposition into touch, force the knock-on through offensive tackles or turn the ball over through completing seven tackles.  However, we still need to iron out those deficiencies in our attacking game, where we are still throwing wild passes or crabbing across the pitch, allowing the opposition defenders to, in turn, force us into touch.  Today's result might have been a little more comprehensive had we not conceded so many offensive turnovers, but that is a learning point and something that can be very easily worked on.

So onto the result, with Sidmouth trumping Exmouth by 10 tries to 8 with hat tricks for George Manley, Noah Innes-Kruger and Max Mayor. Finn Hourihan also managed to get his name on the score sheet. A special mention must be made of James Allen who only arrived at half time and tackled like a man possessed.  In one 15 minute half James managed to force 5 defensive turnovers with his determined and accurate tackling!!!  Well done all!!

Many thanks to Exmouth for hosting us and we look forward to returning the favour very soon.
