Sidmouth U9's v Exeter Chiefs U9's

At last January 15th 2012 and we finally got to fulfill the away fixture at Exeter Chiefs, a match the boys have been looking forward to for 2 seasons!

The match was held in a freezing wind on the Chiefs artificial rubber crumb pitch which was a completely new experience for our boys and for the first 5/6 minutes of the first match it seemed the pitch and its surroundings had slightly over awed the Sidmouth team who quickly slipped to 3 - 0 down. however as is the spirit of this team they regrouped and bounced back with a couple of quick tries. The game ebbed and flowed from end to end with some excellent rugby from both teams with Chiefs shading a high scoring game by 2.

The second game produced more very physical, end to end rugby with the Sidmouth team coming out second best on the injury front which also meant several breaks in play. this could have been down to the playing surface as several injuries involved twisted ankles or it could just be the determined nature of both teams. some excellent rear guard defense kept the Chiefs at bay while some equally excellent multi phase attacking kept the score just in favor of Sidmouth. So honors even.

Honorable mentions this week go to the top try scorer Charlie McCaig and great rucking by Oliver Horrell. Special mention to Thomas Mead for being battered but undeterred!!
