Sidmouth Vs Bridport U9s

The Sidmouth green team had a good start to 2016 with some great tackling and offloads. The green team consisted of Charlie Turley, Scott Monro-Higgs, Reece Hext, Jack Pugh, Toby Sanford, Thomas Grove, Matthew Thomas and Alec Bagwell. Our first game against Bridport led to good tries from Jack Pugh and Charlie Turley with some strong tackles from Scott Monro Higgs and Toby Sanford with the score ending 10-1 to Sidmouth. Having practiced two new moves it was good to see them being implemented across the team with scrum halves starting to strategise throughout the game. Our second game against Bridport continued with more good support play leading to tries from Alec Bagwell, Toby Sanford, Charlie Turley, Reece Hext and Thomas Grove giving a final score of 12-1.

The Sidmouth purple team  also played Bridport twice having been practising side stepping before the game. The first tries from Herbie Isherwood and Harry McMahon in the first game came from good straight running and allowed Sidmouth to sneak the game at 5-4. The second tiring game allowed Laisey Jackson to show what she had learned in the pre-game training, by sidestepping from the kick off through the entire Bridport team to score! Ellie Monro Higgs also managed to show off her tackling ability knocking back 3 Bridport players in a row pushing back the Bridport team for a quarter of the pitch. Gyll Gray, Sam Hartland and Harry Wood also showed great improvement in their ability to sidestep and in the case of Gyll Gray to also go through players without sidestepping. Final score was 5-4 to Sidmouth again.

The Orange team worked hard against a well organised Bridport side oozing pace to finish off their tries.  William Allen showed good strength to cross the gain line on a number of occasions. The Morris twins put in their usual shift and new recruit Harry Finch put in some outstanding try-saving tackles.  Dominic Clapp, Ted Jenkins, Toby Mortimer, Thomas Biggers, Leon Rowley, Arlow Squires, Oscar Bruce, Roman Moore and Ben Brook all played their part in what was an enjoyable but muddy morning's rugby!

Thanks to Bridport coaches, players and parents who made the day very enjoyable and to whoever is cleaning the kit!
