Exmouth Vs Sidmouth U8s

Squad Exmouth - Feb 16

We were welcomed to Exmouth RFC by a bit of sea spray and a nip in the air but despite this our numbers we still strong with 19 kids (and parents – thank you!) coming along.

Exmouth managed a few more than us so we were again able to have 3 teams from each club. Although our kids had not played the week before due to the weather, you wouldn’t have noticed. After some tag bulldog to start with they were raring to go (although that might have been just a desire to keep warm!).

The 3 teams from Sidmouth all played very well with lots of strong defence often resulting in securing the 6 tags needed to force a turn-over – well done kids!

There were also fewer dropped balls this week which was great to see. Some of the running by the usual suspects was superb, Lucas Vicary, Isaac Wall, Will Cotton, Will Russell and Eli Moss all doing very well. What was better, however, was when they developed a passing game; after introducing a rule requiring the first receiver to pass the ball before a try could be scored more of the team became involved in attack and not just defence. Jack Bell and Jack Ponting did very well in this development – Jack Ponting in particular managing to rescue a couple of very dodgy passes from his team mates!

There were also notable mentions for Will Swales and Ben Hooper but it was Karan Bountra who was awarded player of the week for consistent play – well done Karan!

The games ended with Sidmouth taking the spoils and the morning was rounded off with a mass Tag Bulldog with the Exmouth players too – everyone having had a fun start to the day.
