Sidmouth Vs Bridport U8s

A surprise change of venue to The Blackmore resulted in a slightly muddy affair as we entertained visiting Bridport RFC this Sunday with a 1:0 outcome from the games played. The weather was kind to us however and after our obligatory few rounds of bulldog and some catching practise we got straight into the action.

With 23 players turning up for Sidmouth (and more are always welcome!) we split ourselves into 3 teams who took it in turns to play our guests, with the remaining 2 Sidmouth teams playing each other.

The first match, with fresh legs all round, was a well fought and high scoring contest ending in a 6:6 draw. Both sides taking their attacking opportunities well and importantly working well together to keep the ball alive through the phases. This was actually the case for all 3 games where the kids did really well to keep hold of the ball and avoid giving it to the opposition – well done kids!

The second match was again close and with the Bridport defence now into their grove scoring opportunities were low. Very pleasing though was that Sidmouth’s defence was a match for Bridports and the game finished in another draw at 3:3.

The third and final game of the day was possibly one too many for both teams but Sidmouth kept their composure to secure a win and the honours for the day.

There was lots of great play from all the players with some exceptional tags by Karan Bountra standing out. Ben Hooper, in only his second week, continued the excellent performance but following lots of hard work, good support play, defence and sportsmanship, George Dale was this week’s player of the week – well done George!
