Sidmouth Vs Topsham U8s

Another dry, albeit misty, morning saw us entertain a sizeable Topsham side at the Sidford pitches. Topsham are always a great, friendly club to play against with a similar ethos of ensuring the kids are having fun and learning the game. With 21 players apiece, we split into 3 teams from each club for a total of 9 games of pretty high quality.

However, as feared, Topsham were well drilled; their defence often caused turn overs by repeatedly getting the 7 tags needed and then executed their attack moves well to score some well deserved tries. Sidmouth fought back in all games however but it was not enough and by our reckoning we only managed to win 2, draw 2 we lost the other 5.

Sam Smart and Noah Clifton led the charge for one of our teams while Will Swales recovered speedily from being run over by one of Topsham’s bigger players – well done Will!

Jack Bell backed up his player of day award from last week with another great display and although Joseph Hooper and Tyler Jackson worked hard the defence and jinking runs, which led to at least half a dozen tries, meant player of the day award went to Isaac Wall – well done Isaac!

Special thanks to Jim Swales and all the parents who helped with the catering and also to Daniel Russell for stepping in to help coach.

This weekend we will be hosting Cullompton RFC at the Sidford pitches. Look forward to seeing you there and fingers crossed for the weather again!
