Sidmouth V Exmouth U8s

u8 Vs Exmouth 25-10-15

After our early meeting to plant bulbs donated by the Keith Owen Fund, (special thanks to Jim Swales for finishing the planting!) we entertained a friendly, strong and sizeable visiting cohort from Exmouth RFC who are always a pleasure to play.

Some initial practise at tagging proved to be very useful with all teams doing noticeably better in defence this week.

With three teams from each club we had 9 games in total and everyone got to play a lot of rugby. In some games we progressed to 6 tags equalling a turn over and it was excellent to see Sidmouth managing this several times without being turned over themselves. Most games were evenly matched but our calculations reckon that 2 of our teams came out on top with one team securing a draw overall.

Honourable mentions this week go to Alex Harvey, who scored 16 tries, and Sam Smart, great defence and tries aplenty, however it was Will Cotton who was player of the week with lots of strong running, notably in support of his team mates, several cracking tries and solid defence – well done Will!

Next week we are at Sidford pitches entertaining a touring team from Chipping Sodbury who are coming with limited numbers so we will be able to do a few more drills with the players, especially around where the edge of the pitch is, before finishing off with some more tag-bulldog – see you then.
