Under 8's show superb tagging at Exmouth

Sidmouth U8s played Exmouth away with 3 teams for the second week in a row. Last weekend 9 games were played at Withycombe against Withycombe and Exmouth with all being won by Sidmouth. However on their home ground Exmouth proved to be a different beast.

The first Sidmouth team drew 2 matches and won 2 matches. The difference between the sides was again Sidmouths' superb tagging. Herbie Isherwood again showed his fluid running style to score over 4 tries while Ben Brook and Tom Bird provided a stalwart defence. Zac and Luca Arver worked well together as usual to turn an aggressive defense into turnover ball and then convert that to points.
The second team  left themselves with a lot to do after the first 2 minutes of each match due to over exuberant support running ending up in forward passes and getting caught offside. However, as each game went on the team concentrated well and scored some good tries and in the processes pulled back almost all the games to being draws. Matthew Thomas had a stand out game and scored two weaving tries from his own half getting past at least 4 players each time. Jude Sykes showed great improvement making a number of important breaks with the ball in hand. The final score was 3 draws and one close loss at 5-4.
The final team won 3 and drew one game. The draw was the best U8 game we have played this season with two turnover balls from Sidmouth tagging 7 times in a row and great finishes from Scott Monro Higgs and Jack Pugh. Exmouth however stuck to their guns and after forcing Sidmouth out into touch they brought back the scoreline to a draw. Toby Sanford again had a standout game for the number of tags he took.
