Under 7s Match Reports

RFC Juniors 40th Anniversary festival

Sid U7’s enjoyed a short, but sharp game of tag rugby during the festival day, unfortunately the visiting side were unable to make it, so the boys had a friendly competition against themselves in a six aside match.  Again the players displayed strong gamesmanship and team work, with each side using the principles of running into space and evasion to good effect. The game ended in a sporting tie at 2 all. We look forward to 2012 fixtures with a strong, keen squad that is brimming with determination and resolve. Well done to all!

Sidmouth U7’s v Topsham U7's

Last Sunday 11th December Sidmouth under 7’s welcomed Topsham to Sidford. With the large Topsham U7’s team a mini tournament was the order of the day holding back to back games to keep all the players active and playing.

With Topsham having three teams to Sidmouth’s two it was always going to be hard work to take an overall win. Sidmouth’s green team played well for the day holding a draw for three out of the four games and taking a 3-1 win in the last game of the day.

The Sidmouth Red team also played well to manage two draws out of four games against Topsham.

Overall the Topsham Yellow team won the mini tournament. All the players put 100% in and enjoyed all their games.

Sidmouth U7's v Honiton U7's

Convincing wins for Sidmouth U7’s at Blackmore saw recent training sessions pay-off when Honiton Junior RFC visited last Sunday 6th November.

Two games were played against a strong and well disciplined opposition. Game 1 saw a shaky start develop into well constructed periods of play, tagging pressure held Honiton at bay and allowed Sidmouth to win ball and run in a succession of well supported tries. When the final whistle blew, Sidmouth closed with a strong 8-6 win.

Game 2 built on this success, holding off some strong attacking pressure from the Honiton squad, but again Sidmouth held there own and when in control of the ball found the gaps in the oppositions defensive line to touch down five convincing tries. The game closed with a second win for Sidmouth with the scoreboard standing at 5-4.

Squad: Will Cotterell, Will Bolton, Freddie Eul-Barker, Gabriel Richards, Jenson Deanus, Sam Putman, Ben Fisher, Archie Guiness, Oliver Bond, Dougal Hastie.

Sidmouth U7's v Collumpton U7's

Sidmouth mini's felt the pressure on Sunday 4th December when the visiting team from Cullompton delivered some well disciplined phases of play at Sidford. The first of two games saw Sidmouth execute some very well supported attacking play, finding space in the oppositions defensive line and coupled with some very competent ball handling and running passes at speed being the secret to the 5 tries scored. Even though defensive pressure was strong when Collumpton were in possession, Sidmouth found difficulty in making the tags, allowing the first game to finish with a 7-5 win to the visitors.

The second game saw the new recruits build on their recent training sessions, giving them the opportunity to put into practice the skills developed, again there was some very impressive attacking play, running the ball forward and looking for support and quick off loads when the opposition made tags.

Collumpton were able to take advantage of the gaps in Sids defensive to score a number of runaway tries. The second game finished with the score standing at 5-1 to Cullumpton.

Well done to all who played. On Dec 18th the Junior Section have a day of rugby fun and festivities at The Blackmore as part of the Junior Section's 40th Anniversary celebrations, please come along and enjoy the fun!
