Sidmouth Vs Topsham U7s

Under 7s Tag - Jan 16

The under 7s this weekend took on Topsham RFC, with constant rain recently many clubs pitches are out of action and so our matches were moved to the Royal Marines Astro pitch at the Lympstone camp.  With the whiff of a local derby in the air we had another great turn out by Sidmouth and Topsham U7s with 50 players taking to the pitch.

The speed and intensity notched up another level this week with notably sharper zig-zag and zag- zig running, dinking sidesteps and timely offloading of the ball coupled with much stronger defensive lines to demonstrate both clubs teams progress this season.

Sidmouth “Team Red” demonstrated exceptional tactical awareness with their movement of the ball, and some bold, scything running by Noah Helm, Ewan Kirk, Isobel Wood and Maddie Russell leading to some well worked team tries. Elsewhere “Team Blue” competed bravely and James Young, Jonno Fletcher, Jay Westlake, Alistair Gibson and Jack Clarkson also stood out with determined, robust running leading to a good number of team and individual tries.

Sidmouth player of the day was awarded to Robson Dare who provided an entertaining display of precision passing, top rate tagging whilst also sharing the captaincy of “Team Green”

With all four teams playing side by side it was a great spectacle of junior rugby albeit it rather windy on the edge of the Exe estuary.  Overall the contest was superbly balanced and well fought setting the stage perfectly for our fixture this weekend at home against Teignmouth RFC.
