Sidmouth Vs Bridport U7s

Sidmouth U7s this week kicked off our 2016 season welcoming an across the Dorset border raiding party from Bridport RFC to who we visited to open our season back in October last year.

With the weather having not been kind to ourselves recently the pitch resembled a tropical mud bath for the kids with the chosen object of the day being mud pies. This much to the delight of the parents whom had to transport home their muddy kids along with the washing of the associated boots and kit after the match.

With Sidmouth this year having record numbers with over 35 players we lent willing volunteer George Williams to Bridport to make them up to 2 teams to compete against Sidmouth’s 4. With conditions under foot going from bad to worse the games played were an entertaining affair for all concerned particularly with the willing ness of the kids to mud slide, dive and generally get as muddy as they could.

Notable play in “Team Green 1” coached by head coach Mark Ross saw Jude Barrett taking on the family style of play from his Dad (Matt Barrett a former Sidmouth Chiefs player) with” route one” thought the middle of Bridports line with excellent offloads to Zac Dunstan in support, also choosing route one were Arden Chipping , James Young and Alistair Gibson who were equally good at their offloads to the supporting Elsie Wiltshire and Elliot Allen.

Player of the day was awarded to Adam Turley whom has only been playing tag rugby for 2 month’s but showed great determination, improvement in all areas of his game with a true rugby team spirit topped off by a number of well constructed darting runs and resulting tries. Much to his mum and dad’s enjoyment of Adam winning the trophy they also were awarded a bag of very dirty and muddy Team Shirts to wash this week.

Overall a draw between both sides was the final outcome of this fun fixture that was finished off with a large game of tag bulldog for the 45 players involved.  Our thanks goes to the Bridport coaches, players and supporting parents who made the day very enjoyable
