Bridport V Sidmouth U7s

Squad at Bridport

Sunday saw our first fixture for Sidmouth under 7s of the season with across the border and along the coast raiding party to Dorset to play against Bridport RFC . To the backdrop of crisp autumnal sunny day Sidmouth turned out in numbers with over 26 players providing 5 teams to play our hosts.

With Bridport also having recruited well over the summer fielding some 20 + players in 4 teams, they had also invited their closest rivals Weymouth RFC to also join us, who were able to muster a team allowing a highly competitive mini tournament to commence.

A great deal of local rivalry ensued across all of the matches played with all sides able to impress with the basic rugby skill they have picked up over the past 4 weeks, resulting in good competitive play providing thrilling although sometimes frustrating rugby for the on looking crowds of local and travelling parents. Whilst also leaving the coaching team on all sides with plenty to work on for the rest of the year.

Results from over 20+ games played saw many of the games drawn and some very close scores, overall a draw between all sides was the final and fairest outcome of a good day, a great first game experience for all involved.

Sidmouth’s “player of the week” trophy was awarded to new recruit Alistair whom has only been playing tag rugby for 3 weeks, a deserving winner showing determination, good passing skills and sportsmanship.

All in all, an excellent fun and enjoyable day both on and off the field for the 50 players involved across the teams, our thanks go to our hosts Bridport RFC as well as Weymouth RFC whom both were excellent opponents.  This week we now return to more local shores against Exeter Chiefs for our next scheduled fixture for our first visit in several years.
