Under 7's V Withycombe

Under 7s Match Report – A great start to the season

Sidmouth under 7s this week hosted visitors Withycombe for our first competitive game of the season

It was great to see over 20 + players on the team sheet for the under 7s,  a beautiful sunny day and a big crowd of parents supporting  providing a perfect introduction for many of the players to their first competitive match.

With Withycome brining two teams to Sidmouth’s four, a mini tournament was played with everybody able to improve and impress with the  basic skills recently learnt for our early training sessions.

Sidmouth and Withycome young recruits both showed some great rugby skills, resulting in some good competitive play, some fantastic attacking running and side steps which provides a good skills base for the coaches to work on for the rest of season

Many of the players have only had 4 training session’s to pick up the basic skills of running with the ball, passing, tagging, scoring tries and so the coaches of both teams can be very pleased at their teams progress to date

Results from over 12 games played saw many of the games drawn and some very close scores, overall a draw between both sides was the final outcome of the day, a great first game experience for all involve

For the Under 7s parents this week it was also  Kitchen duty (for their first time ever) serving over 200 players, coaches and parents providing an equally steep learning curve off the field in mass catering and providing the gallons of tea and coffee required !

All in all, an excellent fun day both on and off the field for Sidmouth Under 7s, thanks go to our visitors Withycome RFC as we return to training for the next few weeks ahead of our first competitive away game against Honiton RFC.
