Under 7’s Back to the “Muth”

At the weekend the Under 7’s for the second time in a weekreturned to Exmouth, last weekend our hosts were Withycome RFC and this time we were welcomed by their local rivals, our hosts for the day Exmouth RFC.

Exmouth as one of the largest club’s in the area put out 5teams with Sidmouth’s raiding party mustering a respectable 4teams, which shows great enthusiasm of our young team to travel locally as well as thanks to the band of parents that bring their children along, week on week come rain and shine.

Another crisp winter’s sunny day provided the perfect conditions for playing and as in our previous visit to the “muth” the week before, a great deal of local rivalry ensued across all of the matches played, with all teams able to impress with displays of some great rugby skills.

Exmouth provided not only great hospitality to us as visitors but also proved to be a strong opposition with a well drilled and skilful team, like ourselves many of their players are new to Tag rugby however they put in a great team effort and are a credit to their coaching team.

Notable performances with great play, organisation in attack and individual running, leading to a number of outstanding tries came from Jake Dunstan , Sam Smart and Harry Murphy whom all attend the same school where they obviously must have be practising in their break times. Oliver Marchant also showed great leadership as Captain of ‘Team Green 4’ ensuring his team defended well and were always ready for the Exmouth attack.

Sidmouth Player of the match was awarded to Lawrence Coles who joined us last season, provided an entertaining display of precision passing, top rate tagging and teamwork to score a number of superb individual tries.

This was one of our most well supported away trips of the season so far with 55 + players involved across both teams, with over 30 games being played and a tally of over 100 tries scored, the end result of the day were wins and losses for both sides, overall another draw for the team that seems to be a feature of our season to date.

Our thanks yet again to go to our hosts Exmouth RFC whom will visit us for our closing match of the season in April , as we return home next week for our first home match of 2015 against our over the border visitors Bridport RFC.

We are welcoming new players to our  Under 6’s and 7’s throughout the season and so if your son or daughter would like to try our great game “Tag Rugby” and to join our rugby family them please visit the Simouth RFC Junior’s website.

With our numbers still increasing the future is bright for Sidmouth RFC with a succession of players coming through in all age groups that may one day play for the Sidmouth Colts and then onto the first team Sidmouth Chiefs.
