U7's have great start to 2015

Sunday saw our first fixture for Sidmouth under 7’s of 2015with the whiff of a local derby in the air against Withycombe RFC at their Exmouth Ground.  To the backdrop of a crisp and beautiful sunny January day with temperatures just above freezing, Sidmouth turned out in numbers with over 20 players providing 4 teams to play our hosts.

With Withycome fielding 2 teams they had also invited their closest rivals Exmouth RFC to also join us, who were able to muster 5 teams allowing a highly competitive mini tournament to commence.

A great deal of local rivalry ensued across all of the matchesplayed with all sides able to impress with displays of some great rugby skill , resulting in good competitive play, fantastic attacking running fast paced end to end dual’s with some great tries and defence providing thrilling rugby for the on looking crowds of parents

Results from over 20games played saw many of the games drawn and some very close scores, overall a draw between allsides was the final and fairest outcome of a good day, a great game experience for all involved.

Sidmouth Player of the match was awarded to Isobel Wood, whom has only been playing tag rugby for a couple of months, a deserving winner showing determination, good passing skills and sportswomenship.

All in all, an excellent fun and enjoyable day both on the field for the 60 players involved across the teams, our thanks go to our hosts Withycombe RFC as well as Exmouth RFC whom both were excellent opponents.  So much so that next week we return along the coast from Sidmouth to Devon’s oldest holiday resort yet again for our scheduled fixture with another round of games with hosts’ Exmouth RFC.

Were still welcoming new players to our  Under 6’s and 7’s and so if your son or daughter would like to try our great game “Tag Rugby” them please visit the Simouth RC Junior’s website.
