Under 7's V Exeter Saracens

Under 7’s Match Report – Saracen’s Raiding Party ends with a draw

Sidmouth U7’S this week welcomed visitors Exeter Saracens RFC to our Sidford ground,  with many clubs often finding it difficult to fulfil fixtures in numbers, especially away,  credit to Sarries whom were able to bring a complement of  3 ½ teams with them with Sidmouth able to field 4 full teams.

A very respectable total of over 45 under 7’s players took to the field, it was great to see so many players on the field accompanied by a beautiful November sunny day and a big crowd of parents supporting both teams providing a perfect further introduction for some of our newer recruits in only their second competitive match.  A 2 minute silence was held at 11:00 by all teams playing and supporting parents in recognition and respect of Armistice day before the 4 game rolling mini tournament kicked off.

Saracen’s turned out to be Sidmouth's toughest opposition so far this year.   The high level of skill shown from both teams with ferocious tagging and quick passing meant that every game was closely contested with long periods of continuous play.

With all the games played many players showed great steps of improvement and naturally at this early part of the season a few mistakes from both sides, with some pineapple looking passes. Player of the day was awarded to Billy Phillips, whom has only been playing Tag for two months but showed great determination, improvement in all areas of his game and a true Rugby team spirit (especially as he was playing against his fellow team members, as we lent him along with William Swales to Sarries to make up the numbers to 4 teams each)!

Results from over 16 games played saw many of the games drawn and some very close scores, overall a draw between both sides was the final outcome of the day, a great day for all involved with thanks to Sarries for being well drilled and competitive visitors.

With back to back home fixtures this month, next week we welcome visitors Teignmouth RFC
