Sidmouth under 15’s ensured their continuation in the plate competition with a convincing win against Exmouth.

From the kick off Sidmouth looked like they meant business and they relentlessly drove Exmouth back to their line but gave away a penalty under the posts. The kick was cleanly caught by Jamie Walker who passed it to Tom Counsell to run in the first try for Sidmouth.

Exmouth immediately retaliated and pounced on a loose ball and ran in their first try leaving the score even at 5 all.

Sidmouth next stole the ball in an Exmouth lineout, something they were to repeat many times in the game, and Will Counsell not to be out done by his brother ran the next try in.

Another ball stolen in the lineout led to the next try and this time it was the turn of David Chan to run in a try which was then converted by Tom Counsell to put Sidmouth up by 17 to 5 at half time.

A kick by Will Counsell gave Exmouth a lineout close to their line but once again Sidmouth stole the ball and again Dave Chan was able to run it in next to the posts, a successful conversion by Tom and Sidmouth were now up by 24 to 5.

Exmouth learning from Sidmouth stole one of Sidmouth’s lineouts and ran in a try to claw them back to 24 to 12.

A penalty to Sidmouth gave them their next opportunity and passing it to Tom gave them their next try, 29-12.

Tom on a bit of a roll ran in another by the corner and not long later was able to run onto a chip by Aaron Bagwell and score yet again to put Sidmouth up by 41-12  when he managed to convert  his own try, this being his fourth try of the game!

Exmouth not to be out done at the close used Sidmouth tactics to chip a ball over the line and snatch one last try before the final whistle was blown.

An enthralling game of rugby to watch, with great flowing rugby involving all players. A great win for Sidmouth against a strong Exmouth side.
