Sidmouth under 15’s played a very tough match against an unbeaten Dorchester side at Sidford today.

Sidmouth started well initially and after a scrum the ball was picked up by Dave Chan who then passed it out to Tom Counsell who managed to put it over the line in the corner.

Dorchester came out fighting and put pressure on Sidmouth to get them within 30 yards of Sidmouth’s line. Despite it being a Sidmouth scrum, Dorchester won it and ran a try in under the posts that they then easily converted. The Dorch ester pack then dominated scrums for the rest of the game.

A penalty to Dorchester 22 yards out gave them their next opportunity and a kick to touch led to a victorious lineout to the visitors and another try that put Sidmouth down by 12 to 5.

Good defence work by Billy Collins and Angus Eaton prevented the visitors from adding to the score before the half time whistle came.

The second half was entirely dominated by Dorchester and despite some brilliant tackles made by Angus Eaton and some valiant efforts by Will Counsell Sidmouth never really looked like adding to their first try.

Dorchester ran in another three tries in the second half but at no stage could Sidmouth be accused of giving up, fighting to the bitter end with great courage against a plainly better drilled side.

Final score Sidmouth 5 Dorchester 29.
