Sidmouth Under 14s V Cullompton

Hopefully the lesson Sidmouth under 14s will have learned from this match is that it is much easier to play Rugby going forward. In the first half Cullompton were very organised and aggressive at the breakdown and Sidmouth’s forwards temporarily forgot to play as a unit. Most of this half was played without the ball, so credit is due to Sidmouth’s defence and to Moore, who  managed to score the first try from his own kick ahead.

Cullompton did finally get some reward from their excellent scrummaging  and their Number 8 scored. The second half was a completely different match. Sidmouth’s pack played as a unit and with aggression and the benefits were soon reaped. Massive pressures from a line out lead to Unsworth’s first try of the season as he pounced on a loose ball.

Counsell scored the next collecting his own chip ahead. Wright then scored  with a (literally) length of the pitch charge finished off with a dive! Morgan scored soon after as the Sidmouth backs started to really fire. This was demonstrated admirably by Innes-Kruger, who made an excellent break  and which Counsell finished off. The forwards now know that if they hit the rucks together and secure quick ball, then their backs are more than capable of finishing. A valuable lesson indeed.
