JP Morgan Sevens Tournament

In spite of being an inexperienced 7s side Sidmouth Under 14s arrived at the Exeter Chiefs ground with a terrific attitude. Their first game was against a very good Kingsbridge side, yet Sidmouth dominated the first quarter of the match, but frustratingly could not ground the ball. Once Kingsbridge scored a breakaway try, they did not let Sidmouth  back in the match and won it 25-0.

The second match vs Crediton was more evenly matched and though Crediton scored first Sidmouth bounced straight back. Morgan made a wonderful break, but was just caught. Hill cleared the ruck and Moore dived over. Syrrad after some excellent support play scored number 2 . Crediton scored again, but the second half was all Sidmouth. Wright, all power and pace, charged over. The last try though was more a team effort. Innes-Kruger made the break, Down spread it wide to Robinson, who almost reached the line, but  Syrrad was on hand to score his second. 20-10 to Sidmouth.

Sidmouth vs Exmouth is always a good match and this one was no exception. Exmouth scored 3, but Sidmouth scored 4. Syrrad  2, Wright  1 and Moore 1. The scrum was dominant so well done to Pearce and Bolton.

The last pool match was vs Cullumpton the eventual winners of the competition. The first half was superb. The Cullumpton’ flyer of the tournament’ scored the first 2, but Sidmouth’s own flyer , Morgan was not to be outdone and scored one too, sent on his way by Allen’s pass. Wright, then showed his turn of speed to score a cracker. In spite of some heroic defence, notably Hankin, who put his nose on the line!, Cullumpton won 32-14.
