Sidmouth Vs Taunton U14s

Sidmouth 53 Vs Taunton 24

The U14s produced some of their best attacking rugby last Sunday to overcome a substantial Taunton team who put 40 point into them last season.

The tone was set as Sidmouth received the first kick off when big Joe galloped through a flimsy defence, chipped and caught and was desperately dragged down feet short of the try line. An off-load from the deck sent Josh Golding scampering in and Sidmouth were away !

The home team then set about receiving from kick offs and moving the ball smoothly away from defenders. Taunton chased shadows as time and again Sidmouth cleared quickly at the breakdown and shipped the ball wide. From Fly Half Finlay Morgan controlled field position beautifully and applied pressure to an uncertain defence. Time and again Sidmouth scored from good team play and it was good to see Finlay Johnson doing the hard yards and to be rewarded with points.

With the half time score at 43 -5 the game was decided, so in the second half Sidmouth substituted key players to practise a ‘plan B’. Mixed results ensued and lineout alternatives plus kicking accuracy are now areas to work on.

Mattie Laurenti was again voted by the team as Man of the Match closely followed by Louis Stamp both of whom produced excellent back row displays of ball winning and link play with the three quarters. Congratulations to the team on another excellent performance.
