Sidmouth V Crediton U14s

Crediton  12     Sidmouth  24

Team 23-09-15 compressed

A shoestring Sidmouth team ventured up to ‘Kirton’ last Sunday to open their account for the new season. The mid Devon boys weren’t in the mood to muck about though and tore out of the blocks at a breathless pace to give Sidmouth a shock. Fortunately no points were conceded as the boys in green absorbed the pressure and counter attacked with accuracy and precision.

Eventually Kirton’s brittle defence gave way and the speed merchant Josh Golding slipped his shackles to romp in. Then it was big Joe Elsworth’s turn to do some damage as he notched up his first try of the campaign. Joe is currently being appraised for Devon’s Elite Player Development Group ( EPDG) and as such was a ‘marked man’ in the game. Unfortunately for Crediton, Joe terrorised their defence all game, won all the opposition’s line out ball and snuffed out many of Crediton’s promising attacks plus kicked two fantastic conversions from the touch line.

Utility man Cole Monaghan gave a faultless display this time at Scrum Half and provided plenty of clean ball for new recruit Owen Tidball, in at Centre, to familiarise himself with Sidmouth’s running style. As ever unsung hero, Alex Peacock, took control of the hard man duties and mastered the ball on the deck to keep his team in the ascendancy.

In the 2nd half Crediton capitalised on the slope to run in two tries but Sidmouth kept out of reach with two more tries from Elsworth and Josh Roberts. Man of the match went to Cole Monaghan and the whole team can be proud of their 1st stellar performance.
