New Years performance

Sidmouth 45               Collumpton 0

Due to an unplayable home pitch the U13s played at an overcast but uncharacteristically dry and calm Collumpton. Starting well, a 23 man Sidmouth squad were quickly into a two try lead with Hubble and Lowe, Harris converting both with ease.

Sidmouth's confidence grew and the rotating squad forced errors from Collumpton as they came under pressure from the forwards, resulting in a determined Perez going over for the third try. Sidmouth continued to dominate with a Lowe & Hubble starting and completing a slick move; Lowe driving apart the forwards before passing the ball out along the line for Hubble to slide over.

Collumpton provided more resistance in the latter period of the first half; a loose pass from Sidmouth intercepted by Collumpton almost resulting in a try. A frustrating period of mishandling and ping pong possession then followed which was ended more by luck than judgement by Mead running the full length of the pitch for an impressive try, to the dismay of a deflated Collumpton. Harris converted to end the half 31-0.

Collumpton started the second half more aggressively, narrowly missing out on a try which Sidmouth used to their advantage, kicking for territory as a sustained period of possession from both sets of forwards followed. The closed game suited Collumpton and contained Sidmouth for a while before new member Harry Cockayne pressed the ball home and Tidball converted.

Hubble continued the dominance with the try of the game, taking the ball at speed from within Sidmouth’s 10yd line to show a clean pair of heals along the full length of the pitch, leaving a comfortable conversion for Tidball.

Advantage in squad size, rays of brilliance mixed with post Christmas inertia and handling errors...  an overall positive performance which gave little quarter for  Collumpton to exploit.
