Sidmouth Vs Devonport Services

2 Sid U13s

Devon Cup Semi Final

On a gloriously sunny morning Sidmouth RFC U13's welcomed Devonport Services to the Blackmore ground to contest the Devon Cup Semi Final.A good crowd turned up to support both teams in what turned out to be an excellent advert for junior rugby.

Devonport kicked off, Sidmouth gathered, set up a ruck, fed quick ball to Kris Purkis playing at flyhalf who stepped inside his opposite number and proceeded to outpace the covering full back to score in the corner, what a start. This really stung Devonport into life and they spent the next 15 minutes camped in the Sidmouth half but thanks to a very aggressive defence (not always within the laws according to the referee) all the visitors could manage was a penalty.

This encouraged the Sidmouth boys to start to take control and after a series of rucks and mauls quick ball was spread along the back line to our own Billy Wizz, James Nicholls, who raced away to score in the corner.  Half time, Sidmouth 10 - 3 Devonport

Now playing down the slope and with real belief the Sidmouth boys started to dominate the game, unfortunately in their haste to finish a spirited Devonport side off the final pass more often than not went astray however, the inevitable score finally came following a jinking run from Thomas Mead who dotted down under the posts, Kris Purkis converted to take the score to 17 - 3.

Even though Sidmouth continued to pressure the visitors this turned out to be the final time anyone troubled the scorers. The final whistle blew to rapturous applause from both sets of supporters who had enjoyed a great game of rugby in perfect conditions. Onward to the Final!!

A fantastic effort from the boys and special mention to the replacements who didn't actually get on but cheered their team mates on throughout with great team spirit, they really are a credit to their team.
