victory for Sidmouth's Under 13's

The first round of the the Devon Cup saw a confident victory for Sidmouth's Under 13's , who were at home to a Torquay side that had the better of them in last year's competition. In their first cup match of the season, and on the back of an away win at Topsham the week before, the home side put on a strong display that resulted in a 38 - 17 final scoreline.

The first two tries came within the opening 10 minutes of the match following a couple of strong runs from newly signed winger Louis Morel, who made use of the full width of the Blackmore pitch and left the Torbay defenders in his wake. The home side faltered in their strong start, towards the end of the first 25 minutes, and were forced to defend strongly within their own 5 yard line on occasion, before a 21st minute try from Sidmouth number 9 Max Peacock was the perfect end to the half. The second period saw a much sharper Torquay side that started strongly and put up their first points in the 33rd minute, heralding an exciting passage of play.

Sidmouth, showing strong resolve, had to defend deep within their half on occasion but showed an improvement in their rucking and mauling play than has been in evidence in previous weeks. Strong play from overturned balls allowed another 2 tries from the home side and another 2 from the visitors, before a final try from Sidmouth's number 10 James Emmett, on the whistle, sealed a much deserved win.
