Sidmouth Vs Cullompton U12s

A windy, damp day at Cullompton and parking carnage for anyone who didn’t get there early.

The first half was a tough one for Sidmouth who basically had no possession for the first quarter. It was a scrappy display from the Sidmouth side who were outcompeted for the ball on the floor and in the scrum and as a result were 6-1 down in the first half. Cullompton played a good passing game, keeping our defence guessing and had a few slippery runners who were tricky to stop.

A break for a minute’s silence for Remembrance Day was held at half time, and following some wise words from the coach it was a very different Sidmouth side that came out for the second half. The third quarter was spent camped out in the Cullompton half, with Sidmouth diving on loose balls, passing the ball well considering the wet and windy conditions and with much improved support play they were desperately unlucky not to get a couple of tries. The fourth quarter was again very close and could have gone either way.

All in all a disappointing day for the squad, whose skills and commitment were definitely a match for the opposition when they actually chose to display them. Several players put in a very determined shift, but the team performance was patchy and the team as a whole needs to learn to listen and adapt to the ref.
