Under 11s - LandRover Premiership Rugby Cup

Sidmouth under 11s travelled away to Wiltshire last weekend for the LandRover Premiership Rugby Cup. With a strong showing from the local Bristol and Bath teams competition was going to be strong. Sidmouth started slowly losing 4-0 against a well drilled Clifton team who went on to be the eventual cup winners. The next game was a more even contest but with only 12 minutes per game Sidmouth conceded 3 tries before getting going and clawed back a couple against the Wells side before the whistle. Devizes were the final opposition in the pool stages, by now Sid had their heads up and took the game to the opposition pulling together good passing movement and tackled well when they needed to defend. With pressure on they ended visitors 2-1. After being 3rd in their pool Sidmouth proceeded in the plate competition. They brushed aside Melksham 3-2 and moved into the semi final round. In the semi Tor provided stiffer competition but the lads now had the scent of a trophy - putting together some good attacking moves to score twice and go through to the final. The final was a tough game against Trowbridge the hosts who had strong support. Sidmouth fought hard and asserted themselves well but the home team kept the pressure and finally scored a 2nd try to win the game. As runners up the day ended with a presentation and Sidmouth collecting some silverware which was presented by a couple of the Bath premiership players - a good tournament was had by all.
