Sidmouth RFC 2nd XV (53) v Cullompton RFC 2nd XV (37)

The Quins first home game of the new season was an absolute thriller against Cullompton.

The visitors took an early 3 point lead with a penalty moments after the Quins had declined a simalar chance at the other end. The lead was however short lived as Sidmouth captain Stewart Bickerstaff forced his way over in the clubhouse corner; the conversion was unsuccessful. The Quins didn't have to wait long for a second try, winger Adam Squance providing the finish; again the conversion was off target.

A brief spell of play where neither side could quite convert any of their chances was finally ended with a converted try for Cullompton, which tied the scores at 10-10. Cullompton then took the lead again with a second penalty kick and further extended their lead with another try minutes later.

The final say of the half went to the Quins, number 8 Jared Goodson sprinting in for an uncoverted try from just inside the Cullompton half. This made the half-time score 15-18 in favour of the visitors.

The home crowd were barely back in their seats before they were up cheering another unconverted Quins try; James Powell dotting the ball down outwide after a good scrum and well executed back play by the home side. Powell was soon on the scoresheet again with his second try after a quick tap penalty on half-way by Steven Trim, this time the conversion was on target.

Two more quick tries for the Quins proved just how good a side they can be on their day. The first try (unconverted) was scored by Bickerstaff after good link up play between Trim and winger Ryan Davies, the second was scored by Davies and converted by Pratt.

Cullompton fought their way back into the game with a converted try , but the Quins replied minutes later Powell completing his hat-trick with another try following a blindside move, the extra 2 points were added with a successful conversion. Just as they had earlier in the half Cullompton regrouped well and fought back to score 2 late tries one of which was converted.
