Sidmouth 19 Paignton 17

The Quins secured there 2nd win of the season, despite not having the majority of possession or territory.

The visitors put Sidmouth under intense pressure from the kick off, and were unlucky not to score on numerous occasions. After 5 minutes Charlie Davies, ripped the ball from under a advancing maul, Will Dunford cleared with a massive kick, to once again ease the tide of attack. Forwards and backs defended with a passion, to keep Paignton at bay. 20 min's into the match a sudden counter ruck lead by Neil Barrett, produced quick ball, James Powell chipped over the advancing defence, also tackling the reciever of the ball, allowing Dom Hawke to gather up and sprint over the line from inside the 10 metre line, Will Dunford added the extras, very much against the run of play. From the restart Lewis Tollerfield started another quick series of ruck ball, eventually the ball found it's way to winger James Leat who danced his way down the touch line for a superb try, Josh Reed just short with the conversion. Paignton responded with try of thier own after another poor lineout on Sidmouth's behalf. Ryan Davies put in a cracking tackle from the restart, which Paignton managed to recover, only for Charlie Davies to intercept a reverse pass just being tackled short of the 5 metre line. A penalty awarded to the home side just before halftime right in front of the post's was quickly taken and the play edged towards the left hand side before another pen was awarded, this time they opted for a kick at the post's which due to the harder angle drifted wide. HT 12-5.

Paignton started the 2nd half in a similar aggressive way, being thwarted by great defence lead by captain Mike Down and No 8 Pete Springfield. Sidmouth then had a nice passage of play taking them up to the visitors 5 metre line despite intense advances, the forward could not cross the whitewash, finally the ball was handed to the backs, wingman Ben Pratt powered his way over under the posts, Josh Reed made no mistake with the conversion. 10 minutes remaining Sidmouth lost Will Dunford with a bad knee injury, Dan Russell coming on to the wing and James leat moving to 9, Paignton never gave up and were unfortunate to be called back for crossing when clear. But soon pulled a score back when the home defence was left wide open for a easy score under the posts. Cris Otway and Brynn Thomas were brought on to freshen up the weary legs of the sidmouth pack. With the last play of the match the visitors once again scored under the posts, luckily for Sidmouth the conversion was missed and a unlikely victory was gained. This week the Quins make the short trip to Exmouth 2nd team.
