Convincing win away at Topsham

Topsham 1st 10   Sidmouth 2nd 40

Sidmouth Quins first game of the New Year saw a convincing win away at Topsham, the writing was on the wall for the home side when flanker Will Siddle on 10 minutes scored under the posts with Ben pratt converting. The scoreboard kept ticking over from then on for the rest of the half.

Sidmouth playing with the wind opted to move the ball in hand at every opportunity with tries coming from half breaks being well supported usually from deep in their own half. Centre Dom Hawke, scrum half Dan Powell and wing Giles Dixon all showing their pace scoring under the posts with Dan Powell adding the extras.

Topsham responded with a well worked unconverted forwards try by their No7, but this was soon cancelled out by another bustling converted try from Will Siddle.

Half Time 5 – 35

The second half was a much closer affair, the home side upping their intensity, much reducing any openings for the Quins. Topsham forwards again worked a second unconverted try but rarely troubled the Sidmouth line. The Quins only score came from a powerful run by Giles Dixon scoring his second try in the corner mid half. The loss of fullback James Powell to a nasty finger along with Will Siddle and Tom Irish at the end dampened the result somewhat. Team thanks go to hooker Louis Headon for making the game competitive by propping for the first time at senior level.
